DAHL COLLECTION
Meet Owner and Designer Alyssa Dahl
A feeling so strong it can change your course of action. And that's how it all
began. After graduating from The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, CA in 2008. Alyssa Dahl began designing for the young contemporary market and was always drawn to lace, embroidery, and specialty details.
In 2014, her sister asked her to design her wedding dress. As tears filled her eves when she saw her sister walk out in the dress, it was a feeling she couldn't shake. What an incredible honor it is to be a part of someone's most important day. After this, she started designing custom wedding dresses on the side, while continuing to design in the industry.
While shopping for her own wedding dress in 2018, she felt a void in the retail market. She loved the intricate details and quality of the couture designers but couldn't afford the price tag. She felt the designers within her budget lacked detail and quality. She wanted something different, after tasking herself the job of creating her own wedding dress she realized this was her niche.
And so Dahl Collection was born.
Dahl Collection focuses on unique designs, high-quality fabrics, and couture detailing at a more affordable price point. Dahl Collection is for the bride who wants to add drama and sex appeal to her wedding gown.
The Details
Hand Sewing and Applique
Most of my gowns have hand sewn details, which make them stand apart from other gowns. Every piece of lace is individually cut and hand placed on the garment. It is then hand sewn, creating a truly one of a kind gown. Because of the great attention to detail that goes into this process, it takes a considerable amount of time. A truly unique garment, which makes this garment more costly due to the labor that is put into it.
A good rule of thumb to remember is the greater amount of applique, means the
more time it takes to cut and sew. Which in turn means a greater amount of labor, which increases the cost of the garment.
Manufacturing
Making Wedding Dresses Ethically and Sustainably
Did you know 80% of wedding dresses sold in America are made in China, according to the American Bridal and Prom Industry Association?
All Dahl Collection gowns are made to order in California. Where there are strict labor laws in play that ensure workers are actually being paid fair wages.
All Dahl Collection gowns are made to order, which means fabric is only being used once a gown is actually purchased, eliminating waste. I only keep a limited amount of fabric stock in my office to ensure that fabric is actually being used. The excess fabric that was cut by my patterns is used towards appliques.
